Formaldehyde in Your Door: What You Need to Know

The newly renovated room can not be directly occupied, because the paint or door are likely to emit gas that is harmful to the human body, which is called formaldehyde. Excessive formaldehyde is harmful to the human body. Exposure to formaldehyde at low concentrations can cause headache, dizziness, fatigue, sensory disturbance, and reduced immunity. Long-term exposure to formaldehyde is fatal. Read this article together to tell you where and how to remove formaldehyde.

Where is the formaldehyde coming from?

There are many sources of formaldehyde, but mainly from decorative panels and wooden furniture.

Formaldehyde is generally used in the paint of solid wood furniture, or in the furniture of sheet furniture; formaldehyde is also produced during the manufacture of wallpaper. We use glue to make the wallpaper adhere to the wall better, and the glue contains formaldehyde. Usually the wood floor formaldehyde is generally covered and the emission is slower. But if the home is using floor heating, then the formaldehyde will increase in winter.

Method of removing formaldehyde

We usually use formaldehyde peel, air fresheners, etc. to remove formaldehyde, but it does not make a big difference. In fact, the formaldehyde removal method is mainly carried out in three aspects: temperature, humidity and ventilation.

Ventilation method

It is the most long-lasting and useful method to remove and dilute harmful gases in the room by replacing the natural circulation of indoor air. For houses with poor ventilation, an electric fan is recommended.

High temperature and high humidity method

When the temperature is not high, we can turn on the air conditioner heating + air humidifier, and the formaldehyde emission is faster in the high temperature environment. It can be combined with ventilation, such as daytime ventilation, and open air-conditioning heating + air humidifier at night.

Activated carbon assisted method

The nano-carbon crystal type activated carbon effect will be better. However, activated carbon can only be used as an auxiliary method. Since activated carbon can only absorb part of formaldehyde, it will be released after a long time. Therefore, we recommend that it be exposed to the sun for 10-15 days before use.

How to prevent formaldehyde in wooden doors?

The harmful substances produced by solid wood doors are mainly derived from artificial wood boards and paints. When choosing a wooden door, try to use the crude wooden door. If you want to use a composite door, do not use MDF and particle board, and replace it with plywood.

1. To see the cross-section sample provided by the seller in the store, look at the door page and the door frame, and see the cross-section to know which materials to use.

2. When purchasing solid wood doors, you should know whether the environmental protection index is formaldehyde emission ≤1.5mg/L.

3. After the wooden door is delivered to the home, be sure to check it before installation, lock the hole, and assemble the hinge. You can see the internal structure of the door. If conditions permit, scrape the bottom side of the door. You can see if the plywood is used.

4. A more effective way is to choose a product that does not contain MDF and particleboard, and choose a composite door made of plywood and natural wood.
